Long before the existence of Auroris, the sun and moon used to always be on opposite ends of the sky, causing night and day. But with time, Sol and Luna fell in love. With their marriage, the day/night cycle ceased, as the sun and moon both shared the same sky. With the birth of their two children, Aurora and Dilucos, Sol and Luna created the human city of Auroris to honor them.
For a time, Sol and Luna were happy, and they ruled the godly realm of Caeles well. But eventually, something changed in Sol. He was consumed with paranoia and a desire to maintain control in whatever way he could. This culminated in Sol banning all gods from direct interaction with humans. Luna tolerated Sol's unreasonable demands at first, but when his rules resulted in the banishment of their own daughter, she'd had enough.
A rift developed between Sol and Luna. Angry over the loss of her daughter, and still harboring her own compassion for humankind despite everything, Luna went behind Sol's back and instituted her Blades (a pair of human assassins) to improve the half of Auroris that bore her name. Now she walks a fine line trying to follow her conscience while also struggling with her lingering feelings for Sol.

Lucian's mother worked in the Temple of the Moon when she met Somnium, the God of Sleep. She didn't have a choice in the matter when she wound up with Lucian. She could never bring herself to face the child she hadn't wanted, a reminder of a painful memory. Lucian was left at the Moon Temple at just 2 years old, where another servant of the moon, Helen, raised him as her own son.
When Lucian was 8, a street rat, Fin, a demigod of reason, showed up at the Moon Temple seeking shelter. Recognizing that she now had 2 young demigods at her disposal, the Priestess of the temple requested that Luna's Blades (two assassins that serve the Moon Goddess) train the pair. Lucian and Fin trained together for a number of years to become the next set of Luna's Blades, until a noble family heard of Fin's talents.
Fin was adopted by a noble house, leaving Lucian behind at the Moon Temple, although they remained friends despite Fin's now higher station. 2 years later, when Lucian was 14, a new boy showed up at the Moon Temple: Aaron. The Priestess informed Lucian that Aaron would join him as a Blade. The two didn't get along at first, but with time, Lucian began to view Aaron as a little brother. At 27, Lucian has now been one of Luna's Blades for 5 years.

Aaron was the son of a prominent nobleman, the head of House Cassis. House Cassis controls all police and military force within Auroris, so Aaron's birth was anything but an accident. Although, it's unclear whether Aaron's mother, the goddess Cassis, intended a power play of her own with his birth.
Aaron had a strict and brutal upbringing with the intention of honing his combat magic early on. When Aaron was 9 years old, he fled from House Cassis (and the Sun Level) and hid in the Moon Level. The Moon Temple was willing to shelter him, even going so far as to change his identity completely to prevent his discovery by the corrupt House Cassis. Aaron was safe and loved for the first time in his life, so when the Priestess of the temple asked if he wanted to train alongside Lucian as one of Luna's Blades, he eagerly accepted.
Aaron tried to befriend Lucian, but the older boy was resistant to accepting him, especially since Aaron didn't seem to take anything seriously. Given time, they eventually grew to see each other like brothers. At 17, Aaron became a full-fledged Blade. Now 22, Aaron is starting to wonder if being an assassin is what he actually wants in life...

Born in the Moon Level, Fin never spoke of his mother or how he ended up a street rat. But he knew from a young age that he was a child of Logos, the God of Reason, though he had no way to access his magic, too poor to pay for the procedure. When he was able to steal some platinum from a noble, Fin became a veritable hero to the other street rats when his magic activated: the power of suggestion.
Fin did well for himself as a demigod street rat, but by age 12 he soon drew the attention of House Vindicta, a noble house known for preying on powerful young demis. Abandoned by his fellow street rats, Fin turned to the only place he could think of to escape House Vindicta: the Moon Temple. At the temple, Fin befriended Lucian, who convinced him to stay and train to become one of Luna’s Blades.
At 16, a noble family (the Enfields), approached Fin with an offer of adoption. Excited at the prospect of being a part of House Logos, Fin accepted. Fin took to life in the Sun Level quickly and formed a strong bond with his adoptive sister, Mina. He rose quickly to the title of Lord, and when their father passed, Fin became the new head of the Enfield family at 25. Now 31, his rags to riches story isn’t quite what it appears...

Mina was born as the only child of Lord and Lady Enfield, nobles in House Logos. Mina’s mother was a distant descendant of Logos (the child of a demigod), which led to a small amount god blood running through Mina’s veins, but not enough to grant her access to any kind of magic. Mina’s mother passed away when she was young, before she could really understand the nature of her heritage.
Mina grew up always being the odd-one-out: exceedingly bright, but with a level of perception that the other noble children found off-putting. Her father knew she didn’t have the temperament to become head of the Enfield family when he died. When Mina was 10, he made the decision to adopt a demigod boy from the Moon Level: Fin. Mina was thrilled to have a new older brother, and they bonded instantly.
But over time, Mina started to wonder if she might be a demi too, suspecting because of her unusual features. This led to an argument with her father that was never resolved up until his death, when she was 19. Fin agreed to allow her to test if she was a demi... But she was completely human. Searching for purpose, Mina joined House Cassis on the police force at age 20. Now 25, she’s almost a detective, a job she wants more than anything.

Though Roan is the second-in-command of the Blue Devils, not much is known about her even within the gang (like what her first name is). She typically kept to herself, so when Zicari announced that she would be his second, it came as a shock to most. At the beginning of her leadership, Roan was largely met with skepticism at best, and outright disrespect at worst.
No one understood why she would sometimes offer food to the Moon Level street rats, or unnecessarily spare a life. But it didn't take too long until the Blue Devils began to understand why Zicari chose her. It didn't seem to matter the situation, Roan was always one step ahead of anyone who opposed her, and beneath her quiet demeanor there was something dangerous lurking.
Zicari said he chose Roan because he "saw potential in her." Perhaps. But some of the Blue Devils speculate that he was actually afraid of Roan, and only chose her to keep a closer eye on her. Of course, it's only talk. But a good Blue Devil knows how to pick a winning hand, and Zicari has been slipping lately... But you didn't hear that from me.

Dilucos is one of only two gods born rather than manifested. The other was his twin sister, Aurora. The only children of Sol and Luna, Aurora and Dilucos are considered the respective princess and prince of Caeles, the god realm. The youngest of all the gods, the twins' birth marks the creation of the mortal city of Auroris, made in honor of them. The Twilight River in the Moon Level is named after Dilucos.
Dilucos was always a strange child, and never anyone's favorite of the twins. His shadow magic made it easy for him to squirrel himself away in his room, preferring to spend time studying and inventing, in stark contrast with his sister, the perfect daughter, and Sol's favorite. That all changed after Aurora broke Sol's ban on interaction with mortals, when it was discovered that she mothered the first demigod.
Aurora was banished to the mortal realm, and suddenly freed from his sister's shadow, everyone started to notice a change in Dilucos. Over time, his strange and unsettling nature disappeared, giving way to a charming and confident god who always seemed to know just what to say to wrap almost anyone around his finger. Dilucos gradually secured himself as the favorite of the entire pantheon... Save for his parents, whom he never seemed to be enough for.

Cecily lived in the Moon Level her entire life. Auroris was so deeply a part of her, the idea of ever leaving it was entirely unconceivable to her. So when her long-term partner at the time, Simon, suggested that the two of them leave Auroris together that was an outcome she could never tolerate. Cecily decided to stay in the city alone in order to pursue her dream of becoming a great inventor, and bringing magic use to ordinary people in the form of cracking the code of ancient sigil magic.
Not too long afterward, Cecily met Dilucos, the God of Twilight. He took a particular interest in her research into the sigils, and in exchange for sharing all of her discoveries with him, he promised Cecily immortality. The two fell in love, but the romance didn't last long when an experiment with the sigils went wrong. Dilucos turned on Cecily, thinking that the disastrous experiment was a result of her betraying him. He murdered her, placing her severed soul into a sigil, granting her a form of the immortality he promised.
100 years later, Dilucos keeps Cecily's soul close to him, still bound to the sigil. Cecily is now a shade of her former self, barely retaining any of the memories. But she remembers the pain of a lover's knife, and the burning desire for release from her prison.

The Star-Bearer
Mors is considered one of the oldest gods in the Auroris pantheon. It’s said that as a human, you only run into him if you cling to life when your time has come, and it’s his job to usher you on to the afterlife. Mors’ official title is “God of the Dying,” but he’s often simply referred to as the “God of Death,” a detail he stopped correcting a long time ago. Mors has a checkered past that still haunts him to this day...
Mors used to be inseparable from Medella, Goddess of the Living. Despite their differing idealogies, Medella was the only person who would tolerate his harsh and unforgiving nature. 425 years ago, that changed. Mors and Medella performed an “experiment,” a taboo that broke the laws of nature. Knowing that he was already disliked by the gods, Mors took the fall for their joint mistake, leaving Medella’s reputation in tact.
But 400 years is a long time to be an outcast, even for a god like Mors. Over time, Mors and Medella drifted apart, their relationship unable to handle the strain of Mors’ judgment. Now he spends most of his time in Auroris, only briefly stopping in Caeles as necessary and avoiding his former lover altogether, leaving Medella to wonder what exactly happened between them.

Medella is one of the oldest gods in the pantheon. She and Mors (God of the Dying) appeared in Caeles together one day, and no one asked any questions. Though, it seems the two of them may have made some kind of deal with Sol, king of the god realm, but no one knows for sure. Medella is colloquially known as the "Goddess of Life," but only refers to herself as the "Goddess of the Living."
Medella used to almost constantly be at Mors' side, the two of them close friends and, at one point, more than friends. But 425 years ago, Mors and Medella performed what the other gods call an ""experiment" involving mortals. Though, when it came time to admit their guilt, Medella was afraid to admit her part in it, and Mors took the fall alone. The two began to drift apart after Mors was placed under Sol's judgment.
Medella regrets not standing by Mors that day, but he now refuses to make amends with her. Though they never officially separated, they both consider themselves currently unattached. Medella now freely intermingles with mortals and has many demigod children, but because of Sol's ban on interference, she barely interacts with them for any length of time. Deep down, the only person she really wants is Mors.
